RENTAL GUIDE
Understand deposits and damage cover
A security deposit, an insurance excess and a damage waiver are different things. Ask the provider what each term means in the actual agreement and which events or parts of the equipment are excluded. Do not assume that the smallest deposit also means the smallest financial exposure.
If you plan to rely on travel insurance or payment-card benefits, check that they cover the product, country and rental period involved. Some arrangements require you to pay the provider first and claim reimbursement later. Obtain the information you need directly from the insurer or card issuer.
Record the procedure for reporting damage, theft or a breakdown before collection. Keep the rental agreement and emergency contact details accessible. If a charge is disputed, written records and clear handover evidence can help establish what happened.
The terms of your rental depend on the provider and location. Ask for written confirmation before booking.
